Trip at a Glance
Experience Overview
Arusha National Park packs an unusual range of scenery into a small area — the Ngurdoto Crater, the Momella Lakes, and the forested lower slopes of Mount Meru. It’s one of the only parks in northern Tanzania where a guided walking safari is permitted, giving you a different pace and perspective than a vehicle-based game drive. With Zege Safaris, your day is planned around this variety: time in the vehicle, time on foot, and time simply taking in the view, with a guide who knows the terrain well.
Day Itinerary
Arusha National Park
Morning: Pickup from your Arusha hotel and drive to the park gate for registration.

Afternoon: Continued game drive, with canoeing on one of the Momella Lakes where conditions allow, subject to park regulations and operating conditions.
Return: Drive back to your Arusha hotel in the late afternoon.
Top Highlights
- Guided walking safari with an armed park ranger
- Panoramic views into the Ngurdoto Crater
- The Momella Lakes and their resident birdlife
- Forest zones on the lower slopes of Mount Meru
- Optional canoeing alongside hippos and waterfowl
- A realistic day-trip alternative to the busier northern parks
What to Expect
Expect a mix of terrain and pace rather than one long game drive. The forest sections favour blue monkeys, colobus monkeys and forest birds, while the more open areas around the lakes support giraffe, zebra, buffalo and waterbirds; specific sightings can’t be guaranteed. The walking safari is the standout element here — a slower, quieter way to notice tracks, birdlife and smaller details a vehicle passes by.
