Trip at a Glance
Experience Overview
Lake Manyara combines groundwater forest, open plains and the alkaline lake itself, creating one of northern Tanzania’s most varied small parks. It’s well known for its birdlife and elephant sightings, and while Manyara’s lions have a reputation for climbing trees, this behaviour is occasional and can’t be guaranteed on any given visit. Zege Safaris builds the day around the park’s natural variety.

Top Highlights
- Dense groundwater forest at the park entrance
- Scenic views along Lake Manyara’s shoreline
- Strong birdlife, including flamingos when water levels allow
- Resident elephant herds
- Chance, not guaranteed, of Manyara’s tree-climbing lions
- Compact park suited to a single, varied day
What to Expect
Expect a park that changes character as you drive through it — dense forest near the gate, open grassland further in, and lakeshore views where water levels allow. Elephants, baboons, giraffe and a wide range of waterbirds are commonly encountered; Manyara’s tree-climbing lions are well known but genuinely occasional, so a sighting is a bonus rather than something to expect.
