Trip at a Glance
Experience Overview
The Ngorongoro Crater is a self-contained wildlife haven inside an ancient volcanic caldera — one of the most concentrated wildlife settings in Tanzania. As a day trip, it means an early start and a long day, but it condenses the crater’s dramatic scenery and crater-floor wildlife into a single, well-guided outing with Zege Safaris.
Day Itinerary
Ngorongoro Crater
Morning: Early departure and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Lunch: Picnic lunch at a designated crater-floor site.
Afternoon: Continued game drive before ascending back to the rim.
Return: Drive back to Arusha or Karatu.

What to Expect

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a day trip enough time for Ngorongoro Crater?
Yes — a full day allows a substantial game drive across the crater floor, though it does involve an early start and a long day.
Will I see the Big Five?
The crater hosts lion, elephant, buffalo and, occasionally, black rhino, but no specific sightings can be guaranteed on any visit.
Is it cold in the crater?
The crater rim and floor sit at altitude and can be noticeably cooler than surrounding areas, especially in early morning.
Can I start this trip from Karatu instead of Arusha?
Yes — starting from Karatu shortens the drive and is common for travelers already in the area.
